VEGAN BLT BACON

Vegan-Bacon-Recipe.jpg

This recipe I learned from Devyn Howard on my cooking show. Tempeh is the bacon substitute and with this recipe you can give it a smokey bacon flavor with a nice crisp. I wouldn’t say it tastes just like bacon, but I will say it tastes delicious!

# vegan substitute

INGREDIENTS:

Tempeh Bacon

  1. 12 oz tempeh

  2. 2 c water

  3. 2 tbsp tomato paste

  4. 2 tbsp soy sauce

  5. 2 tbsp maple syrup

  6. 2 tbsp Big Axe Spice Smoked Flavor

  7. 2 tbsp olive oil

BLT:

  1. 2 Slices of Bread per sandwich, enough for 3-4

  2. tempeh bacon (above)

  3. vegan mayo

  4. 1 tomato

  5. 1 avocado

  6. 2-4 romaine lettuce leaves

DIRECTIONS

1.   create marinade

In a tupperware, or gallon bag, mix together the water, tomato paste, soy sauce, maple syrup and Big Axe Spice Smoked Flavor (you can also use 2 tbsp liquid smoke). This is your marinade.

2.   Marinade Tempeh

Slice the tempeh into thin slices (about 1 cm). Place into bag. Seal and put bag in fridge for 3-24 hours to marinade.

3.   Pan Sear

Heat up a pan with 2 tbsp of olive oil. Cook the tempeh on both sides for about 3-5 min each side.

4.   Stack BLT

Stack you BLT with bread, mayo, tempeh bacon, tomato slices, lettuce and sliced avocado.
